About me
Tammy Cayer-Dokis is a proud Algonquin woman from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg, located in the traditional Algonquin territory near Ottawa, who lives in North Bay with her family and maintains a deep connection to the land and waterways of Nipissing and Dokis First Nation along the French River. Her work is grounded in Indigenous knowledge systems and guided by a commitment to the holistic well-being of children, youth, families, and communities.
Tammy is an Indigenous land-based educator and early learning systems leader whose practice bridges policy, community, and lived experience on the land. She co-owns Camp Petawachuan, an off-grid lodge where she facilitates Indigenous cultural teachings and experiential learning rooted in land-based practices, seasonal rhythms, and relational ways of knowing.
Through her work with universities, colleges, local high schools, and Indigenous youth programs—including Indigenous STEAM camps—Tammy creates inclusive learning experiences for Indigenous and non-Indigenous learners. Her approach centres cultural revitalization, experiential and land-based learning, and the nurturing of each person’s natural gifts, supporting Indigenous-led education systems that honour identity, place, and purpose.
