Welcome to the 2026 Outdoor Learning Conference
Friday May 8, 2026 2:00pm - 3:15pm MDT
Youth are valuable members of society with bright ideas that enrich outdoor recreation, education, and wellbeing. Photographic methods engage youth in meaningful reflection and conversation, positioning them as catalysts for change. Join us for a hands-on workshop introducing Photovoice, an engaging method that invites people to explore and reflect on their environment and experiences through participatory photography and promote empowerment, wellbeing and social justice. In this session, you’ll get a fun, interactive “snapshot” of what it’s like to take part in a photography-based project! At the end of the session, we will also share our own research within the Outdoor Health Nova Scotia project, which used photography-based methods to better understand youths’ experiences in nature and how this work is addressing access to nature-based programs in our province. Please bring a camera or cellular device that you can use to take or share photos and join in the discussion!
