About me
Mika Carriere is a semi-fluent Swampy Cree language learner from the historic community of Cumberland House, Saskatchewan, better known in Swampy Cree as Kamininistikminhagoskak (Spruce Island). She currently works with the Northern Lights School Division #113 as a high school teacher and vice principal. Lands based education is her passion, along with revitalizing the Swampy Cree language for future generations. She has grown into an educator from her past roles in being a Junior Ranger with Sask Environment, Park Interpreter with Sask Parks, an intern with the Canadian Forest Service, Projects Officer with the non-profit organization the Prince Albert Model Forest and above all else - the daughter to a wild Swampy Cree hunter, trapper, fisherman and storyteller!
