About me
My name is Ashton Janvier, and I am a proud Dene man from Clearwater River Dene Nation in northern Saskatchewan. I was raised with the language, values, and ways of life of my people, and I continue to carry those teachings into the work I do today. I am a fluent Dene speaker, and the land has always been my first classroom. My father, my relatives, and the Elders in my community taught me the skills and responsibilities that come with being part of the land hunting, trapping, harvesting, respecting animals, and understanding the rhythms of the seasons. Those experiences shaped who I am, and I continue learning every day through practice, reflection, and the guidance of community knowledge keepers.
I have been a teacher for six years, and for the past three years, I have worked as a land-based educator at Elsie Fabian School in Fort McKay, Alberta, supporting Kindergarten to Grade Nine students.
