About me
Based in Northwestern Ontario, Anishinabe territory of the Robinson-Superior Treaty, Andrew Cameron is a francophone educator at École secondaire catholique de La Vérendrye in Thunder Bay. Before entering education, he spent eight years as an Ontario FireRanger, gaining hands-on experience with ecosystems, forestry, botany, and Indigenous perspectives. A lifelong paddler who grew up exploring Ontario and Québec’s parks, Andrew is an entomology and native plant enthusiast who advocates for non-human life in urban spaces. His municipal work as a boulevard garden deputant helped change Thunder Bay bylaws to support native plant gardening. Andrew developed a land-based high school course focused on landscaping, forestry, and agriculture, where students design and build native plant gardens funded through municipal and outdoor education grants. He continues to build and maintain community native plant gardens, several certified as monarch waystations.
