Mike Bingley has spent more than 20 years working to connect Canadians to nature. As Director of Education at the Canadian Wildlife Federation, he has led the growth of national programs that have reached over a million people in the past five years, including WILD Outside and the Canadian Conservation Corps.
Over the course of his career, Mike has developed conservation education programming, guided wilderness canoe trips, managed natural disaster recovery efforts, and advised the Canadian Parliament on policy. Today, his work focuses on bringing partners together through the Canadian Centre for Nature-based Education to better connect and strengthen what already exists across the country. He is a strong believer in open collaboration and actively works against gatekeeping information and relationships.
Mike holds a Master’s Degree in Education and was awarded the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal for his work connecting Canadians with nature. He lives in Calgary with his wife, a literacy and numeracy specialist supporting children with learning disabilities, their two kids, and a dog. He spends as much time as possible outdoors and is known for encouraging his team to take meetings outside whenever they can—even the remote ones.
