In this interactive session, we will investigate pedagogical practices that enhance mathematical learning in the outdoors by connecting to place, community, and story. Different perspectives on learning mathematics outdoors including land-based pedagogies that center Indigenous knowledge and perspectives will be shared. We will engage in learning experiences that highlight mathematics such as counting collections, using field guides, creating land art, nature journalling, and creating math stories. Guiding questions for this session will include: How might mathematics be explored outdoors? and How might place inspire mathematical thinking and enhance learning?
