Welcome to the 2026 Outdoor Learning Conference
Friday May 8, 2026 11:00am - 12:15pm MDT
Stories shape how children see and care for the world around them.
In this workshop, we’ll explore how picture books can spark meaningful conversations and hands-on learning experiences that connect students to place, empathy, and action.

Together, we’ll:
Explore a curated selection of picture books that support environmental and climate change education for primary learners.
Connect stories to simple, sensory-rich outdoor activities that build understanding and hope — not fear — around caring for the Earth.
Try arts-based and inquiry-inspired extensions that encourage reflection, creativity, and stewardship.
Discuss how to use stories as catalysts for outdoor discussions on empathy, systems thinking, and personal agency.

Participants will leave with fresh ideas, a list of anchor texts, and ready-to-use outdoor activities that connect story to soil — helping students move from awareness to action in their own schoolyards.
